Berwick's Live Oak Society

776127D4-CF46-4EE5-8667-E7C48B476297-L0-001 - Copy.PNG (2) This project was inspired by the State Live Oak Society, which keeps a registry of hundreds of magnificent trees submitted to them.

Berwick has many trees already noted and received by the state, most of which are located at Fairview Plantation and the largest being the Bradley Oak on Fairview Drive. Old Berwick has many trees that qualify for state recognition and will be submitted also.

Seven members of the Berwick Historical Society took on the task of creating our own registry. Using the guidelines set forth by the state, the group76E6D52A-2781-49B8-8163-B4A9031C84E1-L0-001 - Copy.PNG (2) traveled the town seeking out all visible oaks. Each tree was marked four (4) feet from the ground. At this point two people measured the circumference to determine it’s girth. Century trees are determined by a measurement of sixteen (16) feet or more. To this date, we have registered locally, over one hundred trees with more to follow.

Hopefully this presentation will be enjoyed, appreciated, and valued by all, especially Berwick Citizens.
